      <title>CANADA WINS!!</title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
if there was one game we would like to get back, it would be the game against Japan.&amp;nbsp; Japan started out fast right from the opening faceoff.&amp;nbsp; They were very quick, and also very loud, and Canada had some trouble covering them in the middle.&amp;nbsp; At the end of the game, the score was 9-3 for Japan.

Going into the game against Estonia, we know that they would be good.&amp;nbsp; We did not want to make it easy for them to win.&amp;nbsp; But again the first period got us and the score was 6-0 after the first.&amp;nbsp; The rest of the game was a lot closer and tighter, and Marie-Eve was able to get one into their net.&amp;nbsp; But in spite of our best effort Canada lost 12-1.

&amp;nbsp;This morning,Canada had to face Italy for the 19th place game.&amp;nbsp; Canada was not willing to lose one more game and came out strong in the first period.&amp;nbsp; They played pressed hard and played &amp;quot;dirty&amp;quot; taking their inspiration from coach Kati who dressed in a dirty costume for the game. &amp;nbsp;

In this game the first period was the strongest and we get three goals, Alison getting two and Johanna getting another. &amp;nbsp; But the Italians would not be held back and scored two in the second period making the score 3-2.&amp;nbsp; In the third, it was a tight battle back and forth with both teams pressing hard. Each team got one goal each and in the end it was Canada on top 4-3. &amp;nbsp;

Canada gets their first 2009 WFC win and places 19th in the tournament.&amp;nbsp; What a great effort!&amp;nbsp;

Canada and Hungary started out quite close but Hungary
quickly pulled away and the scored was 3-0 after the first.&amp;nbsp;

Sara relieved Esther in the net in the second period, but
even the speed of Lise Gillen could not stop the shooting Hungarians.&amp;nbsp; And, soon Sara had to come out of the
net with a shoulder injury.&amp;nbsp; The
second period ended 6-0.

The third was much like the first two, but Canada did a
great job of blocking shots, with Johanna winning the bruise count with 6.&amp;nbsp; The game ends 12-0 for Hungary.

      <title>Canada meets Germany </title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
The Germans came out strong right from the start but Canada was prepared. Canada was the first to score, when Marie-Eve battled in front of the net and put Canada up by 1. Dispite the strong defense Germany scored 3 goals and the period ended 3-1.&amp;nbsp;

In the second period, the Germans came even harder and Esther was spectacular in net but the Germans were able to bury 3 more. &amp;nbsp;

The third period was Canada&amp;#39;s best.&amp;nbsp; With a nice free hit set up in the offensive zone, Alie scored to make it 6-2.&amp;nbsp; German was able to get one more before the end of the game and it ended 7-2 for Germany.&amp;nbsp; Esther got the well deserved player of the game award for Canada for the amazing job in the net.

I think this game was a record for the most Canadian fans in the stands.&amp;nbsp; Brett and Linda Stien and baby David Stien came from Gothemberg watch the game, also some parents of players on the team and FloorballPro&amp;#39;s own, Juha Mikkola. And fan of the game goes to Brett Stien with his crazy Canadian hat and flag.

We felt we had a great game and it was also good to see so many friends supporting.

      <title>the best milk in Sweden</title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
The school kids which were 11 and 12 year olds, took the game very
seriously.&amp;nbsp; They played their hearts out in the game.&amp;nbsp; Though we felt
bad scoring on them, we went up 2-0 early in the first period.&amp;nbsp; Close
to the end of the first, one of the Fryx forwards roofed one on Esther
and the crowd went wild!&amp;nbsp; Many of the students in the school came out
to watch the game and even made flags to cheer at the game, one side of
the paper was the Swedish flag and the other side was a Canadian flag.&amp;nbsp;
At one point in the game, some of the kids were cheering for their team
and I looked of at them and they noticed me and all swtiched their
flags around to the Canada flag side.&amp;nbsp;

In the next period, Canada scored once again to make it 3-1, but shortly after the kids answered with another goal to make it 3-2 and of course the crowd went wild again.&amp;nbsp;But Canada could not be held back and scoredonce again.&amp;nbsp; The kids still pushed hard and with a bad defensive play by me at the very end of the game, the Swedish kids go a break away on Esther.&amp;nbsp; Esther came out to meet the player but he tripped over her and still managed to hold onto the ball and put it into the back of the net as he was falling.&amp;nbsp; The crowd went wild and the game ended 4-3 for Canada. &amp;nbsp;

After the game the kids all wanted autographs and some of us go trapped signing lots of flags.&amp;nbsp; A Sweden newpaper even wrote an article about our trip to the school.&amp;nbsp; Here is the link&amp;nbsp;

They also arranged to have the local news come out to do an
interview at the game and because I was acting at assistant captain for the
match, I was interviewed on TV along with the captain of the Forsby team.&amp;nbsp; They just asked about our time in
Sweden and our expectations of the game and the upcoming tournament.&amp;nbsp; I gave the regular hockey answers.&amp;nbsp; Here is the web site where the
interview is posted.&amp;nbsp; www.vastramalardalen.tv.

After a short warm up and a cheer around the goalie, the
lights went out and they announced the starting line up with a spot line and
all.&amp;nbsp; It was pretty cool.&amp;nbsp;

It was a hard fought game.&amp;nbsp; Forsby got one goal early but we were able to keep them
pretty close for a while but then came a barrage of goals by them and we kinda
fell apart.&amp;nbsp; Though we were able to
cash a few of our own goals.&amp;nbsp; In
the end the score was 13-4 for Forsby, with Team Canada goals coming from
Eileen, Lise, Johanna and Marlyn.

We learned a lot of lessons
this game and hope to improve for the next game.&amp;nbsp; One thing that we did really well was keep playing hard
through out the whole game.&amp;nbsp; We never
gave up even when we were behind.&amp;nbsp;

      <title>Day 1 in Sweden</title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
We started the morning with a light log and then breakfast and a team meeting to establish the rules.&amp;nbsp; So if one us leave anything behind, they have to sing a song.&amp;nbsp; We then had a training in a nearby school gym and came back for lunch and bowling.&amp;nbsp; We eat lunch in the bowling alley, which in Canada would mean hotdogs and chicken fingers, but not in Sweden.&amp;nbsp; This bowling alley was a classy place.&amp;nbsp; And the lunch was complete with lingonberry juice.&amp;nbsp;

After lunch, was the rock n&amp;#39; bowl with the black light, and a punishment for the lossing team.&amp;nbsp; It was a tough competition but I will not tell who lost.&amp;nbsp; But I am happy to report that there was not major injuries.

&amp;nbsp;After the bowling be came back to the hotel to prepare for our match against Forby Dam, the women&amp;#39;s division 2 team from a nearby town. &amp;nbsp;

More about the game to come...

      <title>Expectations</title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
Canada is going out with the aim of B-division semi-finals.&amp;nbsp;

Last year was Canada&amp;#39;s debut year at the Woman&amp;#39;s World Championships.&amp;nbsp; We played well as a team and even when we are falling behind in a game we never gave up. &amp;nbsp; We earned the nickname as the &amp;quot;comeback&amp;quot; team.&amp;nbsp; because of our ability to come from behind as in our game with Australia and Spain that both ended in a tie.

This year our team returns with more experience and two more years of playing and training under our belts.&amp;nbsp; We want to aviod getting behind early in the game and change those ties into wins! &amp;nbsp;

In our first game, we meet the girls from Germany.&amp;nbsp; Germany is a young strong team.&amp;nbsp; Canada played Germany in the last championships and it was a rude awakening as our first ever WFC game, finishing 11-2, and Germany ended up finishing second in the B-pool, losing to Poland in the finals.&amp;nbsp; So Germany is the team to beat this year.

&amp;nbsp;The next three teams Canada has not met yet.&amp;nbsp; Our next game will be against Estonia.&amp;nbsp; They are ranked 23rd in the world of floorball right now.&amp;nbsp; They will wanting to up their ranking as well and will be a tough opponent.

In the next game well will meet Hungary. They placed third in the B-division at the last championships. They will be a young fast team.&amp;nbsp;

The last team we meet in the round robin is Japan.&amp;nbsp; Team Japan placed just above Canada in the last Championships in 16th place in the world.&amp;nbsp;

We are all super excited to be selected to represent our country.&amp;nbsp; Everyone on the team has been preparing and training for months and months for this tournament and feel we are prepared for the challenge in front of us.

We sold tickets for a raffle and 50/50 draw.&amp;nbsp; Some of the big prizes were Leaf tickets, Raptors tickets and even a new Salming Quest 03 floorball stick from FloorballPro .&amp;nbsp; Other prizes included t-shirts and mugs from FreshBooks , Cranium game, gift baskets, wine and books.&amp;nbsp; Thanks to all those who donated prizes.

At the end of the night, all the prizes were given out and some, Marie and Mara, were very disappointed not to win the Raptors ticket, even after placing many tickets in the pot.&amp;nbsp; The floorball stick was won by one of Marie&amp;#39;s friends who she had been trying to convince to start playing.&amp;nbsp; Well now he has no excuse not to come out and play.

Thanks to all those who came and supported the team.&amp;nbsp; The money that was raised will help send us on our way to Sweden.

      <title>Montreal - in prep for the big tournament</title>
      <link>http://</link>
      <description>
Eleven
out of the twelve Canadian-based players made it out to Montreal and
they came to play! First of all, I am happy to report that there were
no injuries to the players. This is, in my view, a testament to your
good physical conditioning and preparations!

While we failed to win any of the four games in the round-robin
(and thus eliminated for the playoffs), the team played very well and
the games were closer than the scores indicate.

We lost the first game against last year&amp;#39;s runner-up and the top
team in the division - iMove Blue Collars 4-1. It was actually a tight
game until the second period when iMove scored back-to-back goals.
There were many positive comments from the other team and from the
stands on how our team played closely. Stephanie scored a nice goal in
front to lead the offense.

Our second game was against Boston, the 2007 Intermediate
champions. We were down 2-0 going into the final period and were very
much in the game. However, Boston scored right from the face-off and
this deflated our team a bit. We had to spend the rest of the game
playing catch up against an experienced team. This was a very good
learning experience on how to handle pressure and for the most part, we
did well.

Game 3 was against a team from Montreal - El Fuego (and eventual
winners). They were a relatively inexperienced team but had a lot of
speed. It was our best defensive game in the tournament by far,
limiting their scoring chances and blocking many of their shots. Esther
was at the top of her game and made some fantastic saves. It was only
because El Fuego had two Elite-level players on their team that made a
big difference because they were able dictate the flow of the game and
thwart many of our counter-attacks. Final: 3-0 loss.

We saved our best match for last against Newmaket, playing our best
overall game but came up short 3-2. Marie-Eve scored on a nice
one-timer and Eileen also scored to make it close in the final period.
Not only did we break our scoring drought in this game but there was a
lot of good passing and excellent play development in the offensive
zone. We were no slackers on defense, either!

In my opinion, there were a lot of positives that came out of the
weekend both from the players&amp;#39; and coaches&amp;#39; perspectives. Thus, the
games were quite valuable for the team&amp;#39;s preparation for the WFC. As
coaches know much more about this team and so will be better prepared.
Above all, it was a great chance for the players to play as a team and
get to know one another on and off the court.

Joe.

&amp;nbsp;

All in all it was a great weeked.&amp;nbsp; Bring on the Germans.
